2.23.09 - CLARENCE SWENSEN, one of the munchkins from the WIZARD OF OZ passed away Wednesday at his home in Texas at the age of 91. He was one of 25 ornately dressed soldiers who march around Munchkinland upon the arrival of Dorothy into their fantastical hamlet. The scene, which runs just under 15 minutes in the classic film, took some 8 weeks to shoot, because of the large number of actors and actresses and the intricate wardrobes in which they were adorned.
Flowers will be placed on the Walk of Fame star of The Munchkins in honor of Clarence Swensen. The memorial spray will be placed on the star today, February 27, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at 6915 Hollywood Boulevard, in front of the Chinese Theatre.
